Who is GAST Manufacturing?

As a business unit of IDEX Corporation, GAST Manufacturing has a long history of being the leader in design and manufacturing of quality air-moving products. We specialize in offering cost effective solutions for a wide variety of industries including industrial manufacturing, healthcare, and environmental cleanup applications. We are looking to add a Human Resources Director to our Benton Harbor, Michigan location.

Role:

The Human Resources Director reports to the President of GAST Manufacturing and Vice President of HR functionally. This role will provide leadership and coordination for the company’s Human Resources team. The HR Director will partner with Senior Leadership by providing leadership and consulting support on matters of goal setting, policy development, and support in linking business and tactical strategies to the human capital plans for Gast Manufacturing. The HR Director will have 3 direct reports on the HR team. This position is onsite in our facility.

Responsibilities will include:

Develops human resources policies and processes for the Gast Manufacturing organization. The major areas of responsibility include: organizational planning and development; employee recruitment and retention; performance management; compensation structures; employee relations and culture building; benefit programs; safety and health; training and professional development. Manage processes in such a manner that ensures cost-effectiveness, market competitiveness and internal equity among employees.

Establish credibility with management and employees in order to be an effective resource. Assist leaders in the evaluation of their department structure and team plans for continual improvement in efficiency and effectiveness of the group.

Establish and monitor a comprehensive performance management process to include: goal setting; performance appraisals; coaching and feedback; wage and salary structure; pay policies; and career development.

Develop and execute an effective recruitment, orientation and retention program. Develop staffing strategies and implementation plans to identify talent within and outside the corporation for positions in the future.

Develop and monitor opportunities for employee and leadership development.

Continually assess the competitiveness of all programs and practices against relevant comparable companies, industries and markets.

Develop appropriate policies and programs for effective management of business issues such as affirmative action; sexual harassment; employee complaints; training and development; career development.

Monitor legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting the business. These include OSHA, EEO, ERISA, Wage and Hour issues, etc. Monitor the company’s exposure and handle requests for information.

Coordinate HR activities throughout the organization. Coach, develop and mentor the HR support employees at GAST Manufacturing locations.

Manage other areas such as relocation, immigration, employee communication, employee safety and health.

Maintain knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation.

Monitor all immigration, unemployment, workman’s compensation and personnel legal cases. Consult with legal counsel as appropriate.

Other projects as necessary.

Education/Experience Requirements:

A Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources or related field required. An MBA is helpful.

A minimum of 10 years experience in Human Resources. A minimum of 5 years experience in a leadership role in a multi-site organization. An experienced HR professional with sound technical skills and appropriate industry experience. Generalist background with broad knowledge of employment, compensation, organizational planning, employee relations and training. Familiarity with COBRA, ERISA, FMLA, ADA and related state and federal regulations required.

An excellent facilitator who is experienced in resolving conflict between different parties. Strong consultative relationship building with leaders and employees. Ability to establish credibility and get along with diverse personalities, tactful, mature and flexible.

A decisive individual who possesses a results-oriented focus but can also balance the needs of the business with the needs of the individual. Resourceful and well organized. High energy level, comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with day to day activities.

Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquires or complaints. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to employee groups and/or management at all levels of the company.

Ability to create and maintain highest levels of confidentiality when dealing with proprietary information and sensitive situations.

Proven leadership experience in a growing organization. Demonstrated career progression is essential.

International business experience is a plus.

Prior experience in a Fortune 500 company, non-union environment, employing individuals with an engineering/technical background is preferred.

Prior success in developing new processes, leading project improvement teams, communicating changes effectively to others, building commitment and overcoming resistance.

Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel & PowerPoint) a must.
