POSITION SUMMARY

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) / Continuous Improvement (CI) Leader, has responsibility for driving an EHS/CI culture and mindset across 3 sites in NJ, MD, and NC. The position will provide coaching and Safety & CI training to the organization to achieve improvements in cost reduction, production flow, safety, environmental health, quality, and customer satisfaction. This role will develop, implement, and ensure compliance to EHS plans, programs, and procedures. The role will also identify, plan and communicate initiatives, functional area dashboards, assist teams with data mining and analysis. Partnering functional leadership teams the role will celebrate the successes of major Safety/CI accomplishments. (Safety records, Kaizens, lean, 5S, etc).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local EHS regulations by interpreting standards, enforcing adherence to regulation and advising management on needed actions.

  • Act as a change agent for leading continuous improvement and EHS initiatives; including development and delivery of training materials and programs.

  • Facilitate and lead teams in continuous improvement/Kaizen events

  • Facilitate regular improvement planning sessions to identify opportunities to achieve key strategic manufacturing and safety goals. Develop related action plans with measurable outcomes.

  • Analyze observations and data to fully understand and categorize issues and areas for improvement.

  • Implement and drive the effective application of best practices as Standard Work, Standard Operating Conditions, Standard Operating Procedures, Job Hazard Analysis, and other CI and EHS procedures/processes.

  • Maintain effective vendor relationships needed to ensure compliance with EHS regulatory standards.

  • Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with safe workplace programs, policies and procedures that enhance incident prevention and compliance with company, local, state and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.

  • Interface directly with all applicable environmental and safety regulatory agencies.

  • Conduct or coordinate effective training for all employees in areas such as safe-workplace policies, practices, laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring and use of safety equipment.

  • Conduct periodic EHS compliance audits of operations in coordination with local managers and prepare associated corrective action plans; provide guidance and support in connection with audit findings; and assist in tracking audit findings to resolution.

  • Investigate incidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine root cause and recommend preventive measures. Review and report findings from such investigations.

  • Prepare and distribute periodic EHS reports, including but not limited to incident reports and finding reports from incident investigations, monthly KPI reports, and facility inspections.

  • Conduct periodic inspections/audits of the facility, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards. Inspections are to help ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulatory requirements.

  • Own implementation plans and specifications for construction or installation of new equipment to identify environmental and workplace safety requirements.

  • In partnership with TPA & HR, manage worker’s compensation return to work process to ensure appropriate accommodations and re-entry protocols are defined and implemented. In collaboration with managers and HR, lead situations involving modified work duty, work restrictions, or accommodation.

  • Strong understanding and demonstrated experience in the areas of Continuous Improvement, Operational Excellence, Lean principals, statistics, and data analysis.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to persuade, influence, and train decision making of individuals, groups, or work teams.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office, including the ability to create basic reports, documents, presentations and spreadsheets in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.

  • Ability to solve practical problems in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize workload, and respond to changing business demands

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to travel up to 25%.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Operations, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene or Safety or other manufacturing-related field with five (5) years of continuous improvement experience in an industrial manufacturing environment

  • Experience with the following methodologies and practices: FMEA, Kaizen, Lean tools, 5S, Visual Factory Aids, VSM, VOC and Poke Yoke

  • Training as a first-responder or EMT a plus.

  • Travel required 75%.

  • Required to wear safety glasses and utilize other safety equipment as required while present on the shop floor.
